The second meeting of the season took place on 14 October 2025 at the Panmure Arms Hotel, Edzell. Our President, Marion, welcomed members while also extending a warm welcome to two new members who have joined our Club. Our speaker for the evening, Peter Fogiel, was no stranger to us, having spoken to the Club in January on Zoom. Peter agreed to return and regale us about his adventures on one the of the Hurtigruten ships. Hurtigruten is Norwegian and means ‘fast route.’ Peter and his wife made this journey in March 2023 on board the MS Vester Allan, travelling from Bergen northward to Kirkenes, close to the Russian border. The Hurtigruten is primarily a freight line which despatches a boat northward daily from Bergen. They have also developed a cruise line to use up spare capacity on the freighters, which gives travellers the opportunity to cross the Arctic Circle and, if lucky, see the Northern Lights and visit the many ports along the way. There is the opportunity to disembark at the various ports for onshore excursions. The scenic landscape and clear air of Norway meant the talk was illustrated with some spectacular photographs. Our President gave the vote of thanks, and we then proceeded to the business part of our meeting.
We are always looking for people who are keen to support us by knitting squares which can then be sewn into blankets. Our overseas co-ordinator arranges collection of those which are then despatched to those less fortunate.
