The sixth meeting of the season took place on Tuesday 10 February 2026, at the Panmure Arms Hotel, Edzell. President Marion welcomed our speaker, a ‘weel kent’ face, David Clark, along with Rotarians, guests and members.
David gave a fascinating insight into archives of newspaper photos taken and kept by his father, Reg. David’s parents were well known in the village and Reg attended as the local photographer for decades at various events and celebrations in the area. I have fond memories of both, having worked with his mother, Mary, at Stracathro Hospital and been ‘snapped’ by Reg at various events in the village -Brownies, coffee mornings etc.
Whilst the family has all the negatives stored in dated envelopes, they are not catalogued. However, a digital archive of all newspapers has been created, which can be searched to find the details of date and subject of those images which appeared on the pages of local newspapers. David can then use his magic to enhance the quality of the original or even to colour it appropriately by time period using AI. He shared some really interesting local examples with well known faces from years back, triggering a wave of memories and nostalgia amongst his audience.
Our annual Charity Bazaar takes place on Saturday 7 March 2026 in the Masonic Hall, Laurencekirk, 10 am – 11.30 am. Do come along for a chat and a ‘fine piece’. All money raised is distributed to local charities.
As always, new members will be warmly welcomed, and if you are interested in knitting squares or sewing blankets, or collecting stamps, ring pulls or underwear for ‘Smalls for All’, please contact Innerwheeldistrict1@outlook.com
