The first meeting of our 2025/2026 season took place on Tuesday 9 September 2025 at the Panmure Arms Hotel Edzell. Members were warmly welcomed by our 41st President, Marion. Our speaker for the evening was a well-known local lady, Morag Mitchell who is the President of Laurencekirk and District Rotary Club. Marion gave a resume of Morag’s varied career ranging from nurse, journalist, care home manager and transport manager. Following retirement, Morag became involved with Kincardine and Mearns Citizen Advice Bureau where she is now Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Morag chaired the local Gala Committee for four years, is an invigilator at Mearns Academy for SQA exams and recently joined the Dickson Hall Committee. And if that was not enough, she manages to fit in being responsible for Health and Safety at her husband’s haulage company and is Transport Manager for four haulage companies! I think the saying is ‘if you want something done, ask a busy person’.
Morag joined Rotary in 2023 and in her year as President, she is keen to continue raising the profile of the Club and she spoke of its busy schedule of events coming up for the Autumn. Saturday 27 September will see the Rotary Coffee Morning taking place in the Masonic Hall 10am – 11.30 am. This event is to raise funds for the Bonfire and Firework display which takes place on Friday 7 November – look out for more information. Inner Wheel members have volunteered to help with baking, manning stalls and the usual round of kitchen tasks. Come along for a chat and a ‘fine piece’
There will also be a bus for people from the area to attend the Fiona Kennedy concert in the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen on Friday 3 October – again look out for information or speak to a member of Rotary.
Morag highlighted that the club is always keen to attract new members, and she offered the services of Rotary members to help with our charity bazaar in March.
Following Morag’s informative talk on all Rotary has planned for the next few months, come along and support some of these worthwhile causes. As a Club, we offer our best wishes to Morag during her year as President and look forward to working with her and fellow Rotarians.
As always, Inner Wheel warmly welcomes new members. It is a great way to have some fun socialising while also giving something back to your local community and we were pleased to learn of the induction of two new members.
