Well Hello and Welcome to Mearns FM’s very first blog post!

When I was asked to do this I thought “Brilliant – but what am I going to say?!”

Well here are my thoughts….

As your local station in the Mearns I do feel sometimes we can concentrate too much on Stonehaven and perhaps leave Laurencekirk and Inverbervie behind (this isn’t our intention!)

When I started with the station I wanted to make it a priority to change this and get Laurencekirk, Inverbervie and surrounding villages more involved with the station.

I am happy to report that very soon we will have a new studio in Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk and the station is also getting involved with the Mearns Youth Forum group. Mearns Academy LIVE will go out on the station every day from 1.20 pm to 1.45pm (we can’t wait!).

We are also hoping to attend the Shaping Laurencekirk event on the 13th of March too, but there’s still lots to do! The majority of our presenters live in Stonehaven and that’s great but how about having some more from Laurencekirk, Inverbervie, Fettercairn, Auchenblae etc? If you are interested in joining us all you need to do is email volunteers@mearnsfm.org.uk – We want to make the station as Local as possible and can only do this with your help.

It costs us over £11k a year to stay on air so if you are a local business and want to help support us you can advertise with us for a very small fee, email sales@mearnsfm.org.uk for more information, we aren’t really about adverts though, we want a local voice and adverts are just a way of helping keep us on air while helping local businesses flourish and with an average of 22,000 listeners online every month what do you have to lose?

Well I have done my new presenters pitch and the sales pitch so all that remains to be said is thanks for reading but more importantly get your radio tuned to 107.3! and if you really love music and want to make a difference in your community send that email now and become a presenter!

Bye for now

Gavin, Mearns FM
