The final meeting of the season took place on Tuesday 12 May 2026 at the Panmure Arms Hotel, Edzell. President Marion welcomed members and guests to the meeting which was also the AGM. At the meeting, we disbursed money raised at our Charity Bazaar, held in March, to local recipients.

Our speaker was Fyfe Blair, a Church of Scotland Minister, who is very involved in the Caim Project at Luthermuir Church. The project was set up under the auspices of West Mearns Parish Church and now part of the recently formed Howe of the Mearns Parish. It has been supported by grants from the Scottish Government and the Tullo Wind Farm. The land, formerly the Glebe at Luthermuir Church, is being cultivated to support individuals and groups in the Parish with a supply of fresh vegetables. It also provides work experience for young people and is a community space for quiet reflection. Now in its third growing season, there is an orchard, two polytunnels, tattie box planters and open cultivation of vegetable crops. Fyfe has developed good links with both Mearns Academy and feeder primary schools as well as Brownie and Rainbow groups. The site is also being run as a retreat for Ministers, and this may extend to other groups in time.

Much of the work is being done by volunteers but there is no pressure on anyone to come along and work. In the local community, it is widely recognised as a calm and peaceful place.

Fyfe is always looking for waste cardboard (to act as a cover to reduce weeds in the vegetable plots) and there is a tattie box to deposit cardboard at the entrance to the Caim for those who wish to do so.

Our next meeting takes place on Tuesday 8 September 2026 and as always, any new members will be warmly welcomed. We are always looking for people to knit squares or sew squares into blankets. We also collect stamps and ring pulls. If you have any unwanted underwear in good condition, we support and collect for “Smalls for All”. If you feel you can help with any of the above please contact Innerwheeldistrict1@outlook.com

Wishing all our members a pleasant summer break.
