The Inner Wheel Club of Laurencekirk & District held their February meeting at the Panmure Arms Hotel, Edzell. We welcomed partners, friends and members of the Rotary Club of Laurencekirk & District to the meeting. Hopefully we will continue to meet at the hotel for the rest of the season.

Our speaker for the evening was Professor Lorna Dawson, Head of Soil Forensics Group with the James Hutton Institute. She has more than 30 years experience in managing and conducting research in soil and plant interaction – in particular its application in the Criminal Justice System. In her role as advisor to Police Scotland, Lorna and her team are routinely brought into investigations to assist with methods of evidence samples etc. of traces of soil left at a crime scene. Lorna gave an interesting and informative talk explaining the way different soil types can put a whole different complexion on a criminal investigation. Lorna also works with authors to provide authenticity to their story line.

President Marion gave the vote of thanks which followed an interesting question and answer session.

On 5 March we will be holding our annual Coffee Morning/Charity Bazaar which will be held in the Masonic Hall, Laurencekirk at 10am. This will be the first time since 2019 that we have been able to hold the Bazaar. All monies raised are distributed to local good causes. Please support this excellent fund raiser – plenty of good coffee and chat!
