Laurencekirk Development Trust are aware that a swimming pool comes only second to a flyover in the aspirations of local residents, who want to see improvements in services and facilities in the Howe o’ the Mearns.

A sub-committee has been established to gather evidence to present the community’s case for swimming facilities. To date, talks have been held with Aberdeenshire Officers, Elected Councillors, landowners, developers, wind farm companies, NHS Grampian, The North of Scotland Hub Company, The Atlantis Leisure Oban board and management, CEO Live Active Perth and Kinross, Elgin Community Hydrotherapy centre and a number of swimming pool managers.

We are trying to identify a suitable site and will be meeting soon with planners for further discussions. Because of the very high costs of operating swimming pools, it is virtually obligatory to combine the pool with other sport, leisure and community services to spread the costs more widely.

We are keen to hear your ideas for both the pool and for any added facility which would serve the population between the Bervie Water and the River Northesk – about 12,000 people. Please add comments below or write to us c/o
